Day One and Part of Two

Yes, for the next few days you will be hearing all about our trip to the Frozen Tundra!  We had a GREAT time and the kids were fantastic.  If I told them once, I told them 10 times, they were phenomenal.  I could not have asked for a better trip with the family.  And, it ain't easy, being together.  Constantly.  In a van and small hotel room!  But, I was proud of them and how they handled being a bunch of different places and meeting a bunch of new faces!

We left about 5:30AM on Wednesday the 4th.  (It was 18 degrees by the way and it got warmer as we traveled North!)  Our original plan was to stay the night in Nashville with a family friend.  But, as it turned out, they were very sick and we all thought it best to avoid getting the kids sick in the beginning of our 12 day family vacation all over the upper Midwest.  We were disappointed but it really was for the best.

We decided then, to drive just as far as we could in a day.  In all honesty, we probably could have made it to our first stop, which was Chicago.  But, the kids had been so good and they wanted to stop, so we spent the first night in Scottsberg, Indiana.  Nothing against Scottsberg, but there wasn't much to it.

We did take pictures of the Fir tree outside our window.  There were a bunch of little birds nesting in it and it was kind of fun watching them.

We did have one little hiccup.  EG woke really early in the morning on Thursday throwing up.  She did on and off for a couple of hours and she and I slept in the easy chair in the room.  Apparently she had an upset stomach and had to constantly go to the bathroom as well.  Instead of panicking we prayed.  And God answered our prayers!

Hubby ran to WalMart to get a bucket and some towels to prepare for our last 4 hours of our trip.  But, thank God, we did not need them.  She was fine the rest of the trip that day.  Because we had got so far up north the first day, we were able to get into downtown Chicago in enough time to start our site seeing trip early.

The hotel downtown was fabulous.  And it was kind of cool to be in the middle of the hubbub of a big city.  The traffic, the people, the buildings.

EG was up to it, so we got unpacked and headed to the Sears Tower.  More about that tomorrow . . .
