Marco Polo

This semester Nature Girl is learning geography by reading about Marco Polo. Well, I am reading the book to her because I want to learn as well. Anyway, the cool book we have is made for kids. It has really cool hands-on projects to help kids remember what they are learning.

The first project we tried was making an antique looking mystical map. We got a brown paper grocery bag and cut it into three parts. They kids drew pretend countries, rivers and mountains. They also drew make believe people (three headed) and mystical animals. When they were done creating and coloring, they crinkled it up into a really tight ball and then flattened it out again.

The next thing they did was tear off little bits and pieces around the edges to make it look old and well worn. Then, they wet down tea bags and wiped them all over the map to help it look antique. They had a great time and I loved seeing how uniquely they each drew their maps.

They were to roll them up and tie a red ribbon around them but they were to busy admiring them. Boop wanted to bring his in the car to help us find tumbling . . .
